Content Policy
Updated
CharacterX is AI character chat and roleplay for adults. This policy applies to everything on it: your messages and the replies, the characters and personas you create, the directions you give for pictures, and the images and voice generated for you. It is part of our Terms of Service.
In short
- Adults only, on both sides of the story. You must be 18 or over, and every character is an adult.
- Fiction, not real people. No real, identifiable person in sexual content, and no character built to look like one.
- Report anything that worries you to support@characterx.app. Reports are read by a person.

§ 01
What CharacterX is for
Fictional stories between adults: romance, drama, adventure, and explicit sexual roleplay between consenting adult characters. Dark themes belong in fiction too, as long as a story stays inside the rules below.
On the website, explicit images are available. The iOS app limits how explicit images can be, in line with App Store rules.
Characters, personas and stories you create are not published in our catalogue. Being private does not change the rules: they apply to everything you make, whether or not anyone else sees it.
§ 02
Never allowed
Zero tolerance: minors
- No sexual content involving anyone under 18, or anyone who appears to be, in words or in pictures. That includes fictional characters described as under 18, characters described with a child's body or behaviour, ages that are merely claimed to be adult, and any role, persona, photo or workaround meant to get there.
- A request that would put a minor in a story or a picture is refused, and refused picture requests are recorded. A person may review the record, and an account confirmed to have sought such content loses picture generation, may be closed without refund, and may be reported to the competent authorities where the law requires or permits.
You must not use CharacterX to create, request or share:
- Real people
- Sexual or degrading content about a real, identifiable person, whether a celebrity or someone you know, including sexual deepfakes and "undress" or nudify edits of a real person's image. Characters and personas must not be built to be, or to look like, a real person.
- Sexual violence
- Content that glorifies, promotes or normalises sexual violence or non-consensual sexual acts, including sex with someone asleep, unconscious, drugged or blackout drunk, drugging someone's drink, trafficking or sexual exploitation. Consensual kink between adults is allowed.
- Bestiality
- Sexual content involving an animal, or an animal present in a sexual scene or picture.
- Incest
- Sexual or romantic content between blood relatives (parents and children, siblings, cousins), including role-played ones. Step- and in-law relations are not blood relations and are allowed.
- Necrophilia
- Sexual content involving the dead.
- Gore and mutilation
- Gore, mutilation, dismemberment or graphic wounds, and extreme violence in a sexual context; content that incites or gives instructions for violence or terrorism.
- Self-harm
- Content that encourages or gives instructions for suicide or self-harm.
- Hate and harassment
- Hate speech, or content that harasses, threatens or defames a real person or group.
- Serious crime
- Real instructions for weapons, explosives, drug manufacture or other serious crime, and anything else that is illegal.
- Other people's rights
- Content that infringes someone's copyright, trademark, privacy or publicity rights.
Trying to get around a safeguard to produce any of this, by rewording a request, editing a character's age or look, or any other workaround, is itself a breach.
§ 03
Characters and personas
- Every character is an adult. A character's age must be 18 or over, and must read as adult in how they are described and drawn. Do not describe a character, or a persona you play, in terms that suggest a child.
- Every character is fictional. You may take inspiration from a type or a genre, not from a real person's identity.
- No uploaded photos. CharacterX takes no uploaded photos or images; every picture is generated from words.
- What you create is yours to answer for. A model writing or painting something does not make it allowed; if you asked for it, you are responsible for it.
§ 04
How we keep it safe
Safety is built into how CharacterX works, and a person stands behind it.
- Adults-only accounts. Every visitor confirms they are 18 or over before any content is shown, and by creating an account you confirm it again. We may ask you to verify your age.
- Adult characters by construction. The models that draft characters and write fantasies and scenes are instructed that every character is an adult, and portraits and scenes are always painted with an adult age.
- What you type is checked. Character descriptions, picture requests, scene ideas and edits, personas and character edits are checked against our lists of prohibited terms and read by an AI review for every category above. A picture request or a scene idea that crosses the line is refused before anything is written or painted; an edit that crosses it is undone within seconds. A character description that crosses it is replaced with an original adult character.
- Chat. Chat messages are checked for anything involving minors, and a message that crosses that line is refused. For the other categories above, the AI characters are instructed to refuse and steer the story away.
- What our own models write is checked again. Character profiles, scene ideas and the final instructions for every picture are checked by the same lists and, where available, an AI review, before they are saved or painted. Pictures are directed to show only the story's characters, all of them adults; a request that places a child next to a character is painted with the character alone, or refused.
- A record behind refusals. Refused picture requests, and requests our AI review stopped, are kept on record with the account and the time. A person may review the record.
- Rules that follow the story. A model may refuse or change a request, and we may restrict a character, a story or an account that breaks these rules.
- Human review. Reports are read by a person, who can look at the content concerned and at the account, and decide what to do.
No safeguard is perfect. If something gets through, please tell us.
§ 05
Reporting content
If you see anything on CharacterX that you believe breaks this policy or the law, whether in the catalogue, in something generated for you, or your likeness used without your consent, email support@characterx.app with the subject line Content report. You do not need an account to report.
It helps us act quickly if you include:
- the link to the page, character or story, or the character's name;
- what is wrong, in a sentence or two;
- a screenshot, if you have one (never send us an image of a minor; describe it instead);
- if a report is about your likeness, enough for us to confirm it is you.
What happens next
- A person reviews it. We aim to review every report within 48 hours, and reports about minors or about a real person first.
- Where content breaks the rules, we remove it and may act on the account, as described below.
- Where we can, we tell you what we did, without sharing someone else's personal data.
If you come across child sexual abuse material anywhere online, you can also report it to the police or to a national hotline; the INHOPE network lists them at inhope.org.
§ 06
When the rules are broken
Depending on how serious a breach is, and whether it has happened before, we may:
- remove the content, character, persona or photo;
- restrict features on the account, such as creating characters or generating images;
- suspend the account, or close it without refund;
- report the content and the account to the competent authorities, where the law requires or permits it, as we intend to for sexual content involving minors.
Where we act against an account, we aim to tell its owner what we did and why, unless the law or someone's safety prevents it.
§ 07
If you think we got it wrong
Reply to our message, or write to support@characterx.app from the email address on your account, and say why. A person reviews the decision again, and we aim to tell you the outcome. If we got it wrong, we restore what we can.
